Randall Wayne “Randy Ranny” Peterson Sr.
1934 – 2023

Randall Wayne "Randy Ranny" Peterson Sr. obituary, 1934-2023, Baton Rouge, LA

Randall “Randy/Ranny” Wayne Peterson Sr. (1934-2023) passed Thursday November 2nd, 2023 in the late afternoon. A public memorial service was held at St James Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge on Thursday November 16th 2023.

More than sixty of Randy’s eighty-eight years were spent as a Louisiana resident, although his life began in (Quad Cities) Moline, Illinois on November 23, 1934. Randy graduated Rock Island High (Quad Cities) where his father taught math, science and coached football. He continued on to the University of Colorado at Boulder and received his degree in chemical engineering. Randy began his professional life working at what is now the Exxon Mobil Refinery. Also at this point, Randy began his family, as he and, Baton Rouge native Margie A. Ronaldson met and later married. Together Margie and Randy moved for Exxon to Chicago with their first child, Lauren and then to New York City with their second child, Randall.

The next step along Randy’s career path led them back to Baton Rouge and also to the end of his time employed with Exxon. Opportunity re-oriented his career towards entrepreneurship, with an industrial fiberglass fabrication business until Industrial plastics was sold to another industrial company.  Doing business would always be related to “the family” or as an independent operation from this point forward.

Randy is survived by his son, Randall, and Randy’s niece, Pam Peterson. Preceding him in death includes Roger (his brother), Betty (sister-in-law), Margie (his wife), Lauren (his daughter), his niece Peggy (husband Al Blackford), Walker Jr (brother-in-law) and Paige Kathrine (daughter-in law).

Randy also had connections with many people who were family without the typical “blood” relationship and are most definitely his “family” of a sort. The outdoors; water, mountains, swamp, desert. Outside grounded and recharged much of his energy. Ideas like God, Love, connection were probably clearest when outdoors.

Writing and reading are some other areas of motivation where Randy enjoyed and excelled. Involvement in social and professional organizations also motivated Randy, such groups included years of time volunteering for a local branch of National Crisis/Suicide Prevention, and involvement with the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board, Rotary Club, Baton Rouge Round Table, and a college social fraternity to name of few of these organizations. Mentoring also interested Randy. For most of his time was applied, be it with with family, co-workers, friends, neighbors, customers and even some competitors.

“Randy seemed to have pretty normal feet, even though he went through many shoes” in his time. “Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, suggested Charlie Brown…maybe they are openings where our loved ones shine through…letting us know they are happy.” from Lessons Learned and Peanuts.

Rest in Peace, Randy.
